Peregrine Falcon - Urban release

These two young falcons were rescued only days apart, near the base of a tall building in a busy city thoroughfare. At this time of year the juvenile falcons are testing their flying skills and crash landings are relatively common.

After X-rays had ensured there were no breaks and a few days R&R with a raptor carer they were able to be released.

It is notoriously difficult to get good release images of these birds (when they are in their hunting dive they are the world's fastest bird and in fact the worlds fastest animal). As they dive these falcons go to great heights and then dive steeply at speeds in excess of 300 km per hour!
It is little wonder in urban settings they sometimes get into trouble.

We hope you enjoy seeing them take to the skies as much as we do.
