NSW wildlife rescue organisation WIRES is delighted to announce that its new rescue app has achieved over 7500 downloads since the launch just six months ago.

WIRES CEO Leanne Taylor said the success of the app in such a short time is thanks to the ongoing support for native animal rescue by the people of NSW.

“The people of NSW really do care about our native species as evidenced by tens of thousands of rescue calls received by WIRES annually, “ said Taylor.

“This new app delivers much faster data gathering which allows us to process rescue calls far more efficiently and facilitate much faster care placement with one of our volunteer carers.”

As the largest not-for-profit wildlife organisation in NSW, WIRES provides rescue services 365 days a year and assisted more than 77,000 native birds and animals in 2014.

“Our app is already making a huge difference to our rescue services and we applaud the people of NSW for embracing this new technology and helping WIRES and our team of dedicated volunteers continue to save the lives of our injured, sick and displaced native animals.”

The WIRES app can be downloaded at the App Store for iphone and ipad or from Google Play for android devices. Features include:

• ‘Report a rescue’ form
• Instant photo upload function to help WIRES identify an animal in need
• Access to urgent rescue advice
• Make calls to report rescues outside of NSW
• Make a donation on the go
